Coalition Action

How can the private sector advance LGBT+ rights globally? This question is central to our work as a coalition. As part of our Global Influencer Program, we regularly hold events with a variety of stakeholders to come up with tangible actions businesses can take. See our recent activity below.

Private Sector Panel at Equal Rights Coalition Global Conference

Open For Business's Program Director, Drew Keller, moderates the first panel dealing specifically with how the private sector can advance LGBT+ rights. The panel was co-hosted by NGLCC and included representatives from Stonewall, EQUAL GROUND in Sri Lanka, Pride Connection Chile, Microsoft, and PNC Bank. The Equal Rights Coalition consists of 40 countries working together to advance LGBT+ rights globally.

Keynote Speech at the Prague Pride Business Forum

Jon Miller of Open For Business gave the opening Keynote address at the largest LGBT+ conference in the Czech Republic, focused on how inclusion and diversity can have a positive effect on business performance.

Open For Business Briefing at the European Parliament

Business leaders, MEPs and civil society groups gathered at the European Parliament for a briefing of the economic case for LGBT+ inclusion, at an event hosted by Roberta Metsola MEP and the European Parliament Intergroup on LGBT Rights.

Parliamentarians for Global Action Board Meeting

Parliamentarians for Global Action, a non-partisan international network of committed legislators, informs and mobilizes parliamentarians to advocate for human rights and the rule of law. At their recent Board meeting in New York, senior business leaders from our coalition joined a private reception hosted by the EU Ambassador to the UN. The business leaders discussed the economic case for LGBT+ rights with the 12 MPs in attendance, from across Africa, Asia, South America, and Europe.


Drew Keller of Open For Business joined a panel of business leaders from EY, Fujitsu, and GSK to discuss the role that business can play in advancing LGBT+ rights around the world.

Open For Business Reception at the Commonwealth Summit

In partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat and OUTStanding, Open For Business welcomed business leaders and parliamentarians from around the Commonwealth at an event hosted by the UK’s All Party Parliamentary Group on Global LGBT Rights.

Commonwealth Summit Panel Discussion on Diversity & Inclusion

Jon Miller of Open For Business joined LGBT+ activists and parliamentarians – including Caleb Orozco and Senator Valerie Wood from Belize – to discuss how National Human Rights Institutions can work more closely with the private sector on LGBT+ rights .

Executive Dialogues in Mumbai and Bangalore

Open For Business partnered with The Economist and UNDP to convene business leaders and civil society leaders in Mumbai and Bangalore. The closed-door sessions focused on how businesses can make India a more LGBT+ inclusive country.

British Embassy Dinner in Washington DC

The British Deputy Head of Mission in the US hosted senior business leaders from our coalition and government officials to his home for a dinner to discuss how government and business can support each other as they advance LGBT+ rights.

Equal Rights Coalition Coordination Meeting

The Equal Rights Coalition (ERC) is an intergovernmental organization of 39 states dedicated to the protection of the rights of LGBT+ people. At their recent coordination meeting in Washington, DC, Drew Keller of Open For Business discussed how the private sector is advancing LGBT+ rights globally - and how the ERC can help.

Financial Conduct Authority Keynote Speech

Jon Miller of Open For Business spoke at an event hosted by the UK’s financial regulator: “A strong global LGBT+ network is an indicator that a company is proactively managing its culture and implementing its values”.

Pride and Prejudice 2017 explored the role of business in moving the mark on LGBT rights. To coincide with the conference the EIU published it’s new ‘Agents of Change’ report looking into the status of LGBT people in the business world.
